  • Challenging for Nursing Course Credit

Eligibility to challenge is only offered to students officially admitted into the generic nursing education program. Los Angeles Southwest College's Nursing Department does not offer a career ladder option for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN's). However, once admitted the LVN may seek to receive credit for selected nursing courses via examination.

A maximum of 15 units acquired through challenging examinations may be applied toward the Associate Degree with a specialization in nursing. Any clinical nursing courses(s) may be challenged by the LVN or the nursing student provided the student's application to challenge indicates appropriate education and experience.

Application to challenge must be in writing. The written examination may be followed by a clinical practicum. Grading standards are the same as those for students enrolled in the course(s). Credit is given only to the student who passes the challenging examination, has officially registered for the courses(s) and has paid the course fee(s). Refer to the College Catalog for further information.
