From SPBC Handbook (Glossary)

Unit

  • One of the mid-level organizational entities of the College; usually associated with a cost center. The label refers not only to traditional academic Departments, but also to programs (e.g., PACE, Community Services), services (e.g., Admissions and Records, Citizenship Center, Child Development Center), and other offices (e.g., certain grant-funded programs). For purposes of the mainline planning process, it does not include programs which function under Regulated Planning Committees.

Unit Planning Team

The group responsible for preparation of a Unit Plan. Composed of:

  • The Unit dean or manager, who convenes it
  • The chair or other faculty or staff member serving in a line administrative capacity, if any, who co-convenes it
  • All Unit full-time faculty, staff, and administrators
  • If the Unit’s functions affect students directly, one student representative
  • If part-time faculty serve in the Unit, one part-time faculty representative (or more, at the Team’s discretion)
  • If part-time staff serve in the Unit, one part-time staff representative (or more, at the Team’s discretion)

Each Team member has one vote. The Team by consensus may elect to delegate its functions to a representative subgroup of its own members.
