Procedures for REquesting Staff Development Funds

Staff Development

  1. Obtain a proposal form and procedures for writing staff development proposals from the Staff Development Coordinator.
  2. Compose a narrative, goals, objectives, applicant preparation needed, evaluation, need for project, and funds needed for project.
  3. If your project involves conference attendance:
    • Obtain a “Request for Conference or Activity Attendance” form from the website: www.laccd.edu/employee_forms/documents/Conference_Attendance.doc type the information and attached it to the proposal form and proposal document.
    • Obtain your supervisor’s signature before submitting request.
    • For faculty, department chair’s initials and dean’s initials should appear.
    • For faculty, if you are also applying for Academic Senate travel funds, submit this form first to the Senate travel committee.  Keep in mind that the form must reach the President for final signature 21 days in advance of departure. Once your request has been approved, it will be forwarded to the Staff Development Coordinator/Advisory Committee for additional funds.
    • Full-time classified staff is awarded up to $600; full-time faculty and administrators are awarded up to $400.  The part-time LASC employee is awarded a sum equal to the percent of the above of his/her assignment.
  4. Funding for departmental activities is $400 per year.
  5. Submit your Staff Development proposal to the Staff Development Coordinator (box in Academic Affairs) who will forward it to the appropriate Staff Development Subcommittee.  Your proposal must reach the President for final signature 21 days in advance of departure, so plan accordingly.
  6. Once the Subcommittee has reviewed your proposal, it will go before the Staff Development Advisory Committee for approval.  You will be notified promptly of the decision.
  7. After completion of your project:
    • Submit your Evaluation to the Staff Development Coordinator.
    • If your project involves conference attendance, submit the following to your department Chair for signature who will forward them to your Dean:
      • A copy of the original “Conference or Activity Attendance Request”
      • Report on Conference Attendance www.laccd.edu/employee_forms/documents/Report_on_Conference_Attendance.doc
      • Travel Expense Claim with receipts www.laccd.edu/faculty%5Fstaff/extranet2/documents/Expense_Claim-1.doc
