What is Developmental Communications?
Developmental Communications are college classes designed for students who need to strengthen their basic English and grammar skills so that they are better prepared for success in both their higher division English classes and overall college classes.
What is the Developmental Communications Lab?
The Developmental Communications Lab is a special component that has been added to all Dev Com classes to help reinforce the concepts students learn in class and further strengthen their developing English skills.
By law, every student enrolled in a Dev Com class has a mandatory requirement of 18 hours of lab to complete. All 18 hours must be completed on the student’s own time, outside of class, and before the end of the semester in order for the student to pass the class. This is where the Dev Com Lab at the Academic Success Center comes in. Lab coursework has been developed for students in both Dev Com 21 and Dev Com 23 so that there will be something for them to work on each visit to the lab.
For each and every one of a student’s visits to the Dev Com Lab, they will need a folder. The folder is both the student’s and the ASC’s way of keeping an accurate record of the time each student spends in the lab so that all your hours can be tallied at the end of the semester.
The first time you come for your Dev Com Lab, you will have a folder created. Once you fill out all the necessary forms, you will get started with your lab work. Remember: every time you come to do lab work, you must ask for your folder first so you can be properly signed in.
