Los Angeles Southwest College offers Online courses and Blended (or Hybrid) courses to meet the needs of our students. Online classes are held entirely over the Internet. Blended or Hybrid classes combine traditional classroom time with Internet activities.

Our expertise in distance learning and online instructional delivery assures your success. You can attend college-level courses from virtually anywhere with an Internet connect! How do Online Classes Work?

Online classes are fun and offer you the flexibility to continue with your job, kids, and other obligations. You can work when it quiet and you can concentrate. Online courses give students access to their classes 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Once logged in, students are able to view their syllabus, course documents, assignments and materials. Information about instructors also is provided. Assignments are turned in by uploading them using the course management system Moodle.. The majority of tests are taken online. The third thing you need a readiness to use this form of learning, not everyone is. We have provided you will a series of questions to evaluate your readiness for online classes.

 

How can I learn how to take an online Class?

Consider signing up for CAOT-133 How to Succeed in an Online Class. This is a 1-unit 5-week course designed to teach you the soft and hard skills you need to be take an online course. The only requirements are:

• You must be computer literate (able to email; use a browser, save, cut, paste, and copy files; and set up folders)
• You must have a PC or MAC available to you with a reliable Internet connection.
• You must have an e-mail account and know how to use it.

Register For Classes

Registering for and enrolling in an online course is done exactly the same way as registering for and in a traditional classroom course at Los Angeles Southwest College. Visit the online schedule to search for classes that you want to take. To find online courses, choose "Online" from the "Location" options menu.

 

Got Email?

Email is a basic skill needed for all online classes. If you have an existing email account you can use it in your online class. If you need an email account you can get one free from several sources. Yahoo.com, Hotmail.com, or GMail.com For more information click here.

How do I access my online course?

Online courses are provided to students through our online learning systems (Moodle). The online course areas will be available for you to access on the first day of the class. Please make a note that this may not necessarily be on the first day of the term. If you class is set to begin on Tuesday, for example, it will not be available the Monday prior to the course.
