The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA), requires institutions participating in federally funded financial aid programs to make information about the institution available to current and prospective students. This site serves to update the Student Right to Know information and provide a central location for resources that can be referenced by parents, students, employees, and the overall Los Angeles Southwest College community. This site will continue to be updated as we build more information that is useful and required. The links and text below provide quick access or reference to various pieces of consumer information.

The Net Price Calculator for LASC is found on the LASC website at the Financial Aid Office web-page and the Admissions & Records web-page.  By providing the requested information, user responses will be used to calculate an estimated amount similar students paid - after grant aid and scholarships but before student loans - to attend LASC in a given year.

LASC is fully accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.  Click here to access the LASC Accreditation webpages.

 

Graduation/Completion information can be found in several locations:

  • The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) is a Federal Department of Education system that compiles data from nearly 6,700 postsecondary education institutions across the United States. IPEDS collects institution-level data on students, student charges, program completions, faculty, staff, and finances.  View the IPEDS Data Feedback Report 2010 for LASC by clicking here.  Visit the IPEDS Data Center website to retrieve additional data about LASC.
  • The Department of Education's College Navigator website also contains charts and financial aid recipient, enrollment, and graduation/transfer-out information.
  • The Chancellor's Office Data Mart gives access to queryable data from state MIS data system, including student demographics, program awards, program retention and success rates, and more.
  • The California Postsecondary Education Commission maintains a data system which includes over 30 years of aggregated data and longitudinal, unitary data from the public postsecondary segments from the last 15 years.  LASC information, including transfer data, is available here.

Admissions and Records Information

Federal Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) information is found in the District Policies section of the LASC College Catalog.

 

Acceptance of Transfer Credit information is found in the LASC College Catalog. Information regaridng transferability of credits earned at LASC is found in the University Transfer Inforamtion section.  The policy for acceptance of credits earned at other regionally accredited schools is found in the University Transfer Information section. The policy regarding credit for courses completed at non-accredited schools is found in the Academic Standards section.

 

Articulation Agreements between LASC and California Public Institutions as well as between LASC and Private, Out-of-State, & Online Institutions are found on the LASC website.  Click here to view these agreements.  Hard copies of other Articulation Agreements may be obtained at the LASC Transfer Center, SSB 229. 

 

California Voter Registration forms are available in the Office of Admissions & Records (SSB 102) and the Office of Student Services (SSB 209).

 

Students at LASC are awarded credit for classes based on the Carnegie unit.  Information about the definition of a 'Credit Hour' can be found here.

Athletics Information

Intercollegiate Athletic Program Participation numbers are found at the Department of Education's College Navigator website and also at the Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education website.

  

Information regarding Financial Support provided to men's sports and women's sports, along with other Athletics-related revenue and expense information, can be found at the Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education website.

 

Completion/Graduation and Transfer-out rates for students receiving athletically-related student aid will be available soon. 

 

 

Campus Safety Information

Annual Campus Crime Report Information is found on the LASC website at Campus Crime Statistics.

Disabled Student Services Information

Information regarding services and facilities offered to students with disabilities at LASC is found at the DSPS website, in the DSPS Student Handbook, and in the Student Support Services section of the LASC College Catalog.

 

Students with disabilities may also visit the DSPS Office (SSB 117) to speak with DSPS counselors/staff and to obtain brochures with services and facilities information.

 

 

Health & Vaccination Policies

Information regarding LACCD's Tuberculosis Examination policy is found at the district website.  All Academic and Classified employees and those Unclassified employees and volunteers working with minors must furnish evidence of freedom from active tuberculosis. This examination is considered so important that it is considered a condition of initial employment under California Education Code Section 87408.6.  Newly hired LACCD employees cannot be processed until the requirement is met.

 

Within the LACCD each college may establish health and safety prerequisites for courses in the Registered Nursing program in order to protect the health and safety of the students, consumers and/or others. Such prerequisites will be established and validated in accordance with the provisions of Title 5, California Code of Regulations section 55201 and The Los Angeles Community College District Policy on Prerequisites, Corequisites and Advisories.

 

 

Drug & Alcohol Policies

Los Angeles Southwest College adheres to, supports, and is in full compliance with requirements that maintain our college as a drug-free institution of higher education. The LACCD Board of Trustees has adopted the following standards of conduct: Students and employees are prohibited from unlawfully possessing, using or distributing illicit drugs and alcohol on district premises, in District vehicles, or as part of any activity of the Los Angeles Community College District.


The LACCD Board of Trustees has adopted Board Rule 9803.19, which prohibits: Any possession of controlled substances which would constitute a violation of Health and Safety Code section 11350 or Business and Professions Code section 4230, any use of controlled substances, the possession of which is prohibited by the same or any possession or use of alcoholic beverages while on any property owned or used by the District or colleges of the District. “Controlled substances,” as used in this section, include, but are not limited to the following drugs and narcotics: opiates, opium and opium derivatives, mescaline, hallucinogenic substances, peyote, marijuana, stimulants, depressants, cocaine.

Legal Sanctions

Federal laws regarding alcohol and illicit drugs allow for fines and/or imprisonment. Other legal problems include the loss of driver’s license and limitations of career choices.

Health Risks
Health risks associated with the abuse of controlled substances include malnutrition, damage to various organs, hangovers, blackouts, general fatigue, impaired learning, dependency, disability, and death.  Both drugs and alcohol may be damaging to the development of an unborn fetus.

Other Risks

Personal problems include diminished self-esteem, depression, alienation from reality, and suicide. Social problems include loss of friends, academic standing and co- and extra-curricular opportunities, alienation from and abuse of family members, and chronic conflict with authority. Economic problems include loss of job, financial aid eligibility, homes, savings, and other assets.

Counseling, Treatment, and Rehabilitation

Students should contact the LASC Counseling Office for assistance and referrals.

 

LACCD employees who suspect they may have a drug or alcohol problem are encouraged to seek help through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) before the problem affects their work performance or conduct.  As part of the EAP program, the LASC Office of Human Resources distributes monthly Horizon Health e-bulletins containing EAP resources and contact information.


Disciplinary Action

Violation of the above Board Rules by a student shall result in student discipline, imposed in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.  Discipline may include:  termination of financial aid; suspension; withdrawal of consent to remain on campus; expulsion subject to reconsideration; and permanent expulsion. Furthermore, institutional policies and practices may impose disciplinary sanctions on students and employees consistent with local, state, and federal law, up to and including expulsion, termination of employment, and referral for prosecution for violations of the standard of conduct.

 

Any LACCD employee reporting to work under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, or using alcohol or illegal drugs on duty is subject to discipline up to and including dismissal.  In addition to disciplinary action by the District, violation of the drug-free policy may be cause for criminal prosecution by government or law enforcement agencies.

Bookstore Information

Information regarding textbooks for LASC classes is found at the LASC Bookstore website.  To search for textbook information for each class, students simply select the Term, Department, Course, and Section to see a list of the required & optional texts and materials as specified by the instructors.  The textbook information found here includes ISBN, retail prices for both new and used books, and retail prices for any supplemental materials.  If any information is not available, it is designated "To Be Determined".

 

The LASC Bookstore does not sell any supplemental materials (i.e. course packets) that contain copyrighted texts, unless the proper permissions have been obtained from the publishers.
