Remote Access Databases
Show your current Student ID to Staff in the LASC Library Center and pick up your copy of passwords/ID for remote access to electronic databases. To access databases from off campus, students need to go to: www.lasc.edu then click on “Library” in the blue menu box, then click on “Electronic Resources” and select one of the databases below. These resources are for LASC students and faculty only; please do not share password information.
EBSCOhost Research Databases - Articles from a broad array of disciplines including nursing, social sciences, humanities, arts, education, computer science, science, speech topics, and more.
eBooks on EBSCOhost - Multidisciplinary collection of more than 15,000 e-books available 24/7 including business, history, current events, environment, and more.
History Reference Center - Offers full text from more than 1,620 reference books, encyclopedias, and non-fiction books; full text for more than 150 leading history periodicals; nearly 57,000 historical documents; more than 78,000 biographies of historical figures; more than 113,000 historical photos and maps; and more than 80 hours of historical video.
Los Angeles Times (1985 to present) - Full text articles from the Los Angeles Times newspaper, updated daily.
Ethnic Newswatch (1990 to present) - Includes journal, magazine, and newspaper articles from ethnic and minority presses including The Sentinel.
Africa Newstand - Latest news and developments from a variety of titles including the International Herald Tribune, Africa News Service, BBC Monitoring Africa, and more.
PLEASE NOTE: All our Gale databases have ONE password entry box. Students need not enter the user id, just the password.
Gale Virtual Reference Library - E-reference books and encyclopedias that cover a broad array of disciplines including science, poetry, business, biographies, and literature.
Opposing Viewpoints - Provides “Pro and Con” articles on a variety of topics including world politics, psychology, science and technology, drugs, crime, human sexuality, and more. There are also topic overview articles, statistics, links to reliable websites, and full text magazines and newspapers.
Science in Context - Provides up to date reference and general articles on a wide variety of science topics including biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, and more. It also includes newspaper and magazine articles.
Literary Resource Center - Literary criticism, biographies, reference articles, full text journals, reviews, and primary sources. Covers Contemporary Authors and provides complete biographical and bibliographical information on more than 120,000 U.S. and international authors. Includes Contemporary Literary Criticism with biographical, critical, principal works, and further study information. Dictionary of Literary Biography provided.
CountryWatch - Current information on countries around the world.
CQ Researcher (1991-2011) - In-depth reporting and analysis on issues in the news including: health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy. Single-subject 12,000-word reports contain topic overview; assessment of the current situation; tables and maps; pro/con statements from representatives of opposing positions; and bibliographies of key sources.
LexisNexis - Provides full text law cases and laws. Also provides full text articles in the areas of business, law, and medicine as well as articles from international newspapers. Lexis Nexis is currently available on the LASC campus but not remotely. Check back soon for remote access information for Lexis Nexis.
