What is the role of an Supplemental Instructor (SI) Leader?
Southwest has "hybrid" Supplemental Instruction Leaders. These leaders are current students at Southwest, local undergraduate and graduate students from local universities and colleges that come from diverse academic backgrounds. The role of an SI Leader is to attend class lectures with students and facilitate a peer learning environment.
SI Leaders help students:
- Think critically
- Process information
- Guide students through peer learning
- Encourage an active understanding of course-work
- Understand the importance of diverse learning-styles
The purpose of a Supplemental Instruction Leader is to transform the way students think about their education. SI Leaders help students move beyond traditional forms of learning and understand the importance of being sensitive to a myriad of learning styles.
