Background

 

The TRiO STEM Scholars program is a support service designed to increase the retention, graduation, and transfer success for students who are interested in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and pre-nursing.

 

Purpose

 

The purpose of this program is to provide special services for students wishing to enter STEM and pre-nursing fields.

 

Services

 

The STEM program provides:

  • Specialized academic advising for STEM majors
  • Supplemental Instruction in math & science courses
  • A dedicated STEM study room
  • Academic success workshops
  • Exposure and field trips to STEM industries and Transfer institutions
  • Assistance completing the FAFSA and applications to Four-Year Colleges
Requirements

 

To apply for admission to the STEM program you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a United States citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Be enrolled in 9 or more units
  • Meet one of the following criteria:
    • Be a first generation college student
    • Receiving Financial Aid for the current academic year
    • Have a verified physical or mental impairment

 

How To Enter the STEM Program
  1. Print out application from the Documents tab
  2. Bring the completed application to TRiO STEM office (SSB 229)
  3. Schedule an appointment to speak with a STEM counselor

 

How To Satisfy STEM Program Requirements
  1. Complete two Counselor contacts each semester
  2. Attend one Academic Success workshop each semester
