Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

Examination Area

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is an exam that measures a person’s understanding of basic skills in the areas of reading, math, science, and English and language usage in order to enter health science fields of study.

If you qualify to apply to LASC’s Nursing program and you do not already have a TEAS score to submit electronically, you may be invited to take the TEAS, if space is available. After you submit your Nursing application, check your LACCD (Los Angeles Community College District) email account each week for an invitation, as you must be invited to take the test with LASC. If you have any questions, please contact the Nursing Front Office at (323) 241-5461.

The TEAS is usually offered to LASC Nursing applicants in April and October. It is taken on a computer and overseen by ATI Staff.

LASC is currently accepting ATI-TEAS (version 7) with a minimum overall score of 62% on your first attempt.

Version 7 has 170 questions:
Reading: 45 questions – 55 minutes
Math: 38 questions – 57 minutes
Science: 50 questions – 60 minutes
English: 37 questions – 37 minutes

Retaking the TEAS

If you have previously taken TEAS version 7 but didn’t receive an overall score of 62%, you can retake the test but you will have to meet different requirements.

On your second attempt, you will need to score a 62% in EACH of the four sections in order to pass. If you do not score 62% in EACH section on your second attempt, you will not be eligible to apply to LASC’s Nursing program.

Study Groups

This test was created by a company called ATI. And, we recommend you study ahead of time to prepare for the TEAS by using the ATI TEAS 7 Pre-Test Study Manual. You can find out more at atitesting.com/teas/study-manual.
You can also get a complete test study guide through Mometrix at mometrix.com/academy/teas-test-study-guide/.

Also, LASC occasionally offers late start ‘TEAS Prep’ classes through the Noncredit Adult & Continuing Education Services (NACES) Department.
Contact NACES to find out if they are offering a TEAS Prep this or next semester at (323) 241-5281.
