Welcome To GATEWAYS!

Welcome to the GATEWAYS Housing program page! At Los Angeles Southwest College, we understand that students may encounter barriers such as homelessness or housing insecurity along their academic journey. Please know that we are here for you and look forward to supporting you during difficult times. Our goal is to provide you with the support,  information, and resources that will help you create the life you choose to live so that you can find personal stability and are able to focus on your studies in a safe and welcoming environment.

Gateways schedule

If you are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, please follow the steps below to receive assistance.

Step 1:

If you are inquiring and/or experiencing housing insecurities please contact the GATEWAYS staff by sending an email to The team will pre-screen you and if you qualify, will send you a Housing Intake Form for you to complete.

Step 2:

GATEWAYS Housing Staff: Rachelle Thomas-Green, Joni Collins, and Financial Aid Manager, Muniece Bruton, will review, verify & validate your personal, educational, and financial information.

Step 3: GATEWAYS Housing Staff will “Review and Determine” the next steps.

a. If you are ineligible for assistance, you will be notified and referred to partnering agencies who can support you.

b. If you are approved, the GATEWAYS Team will determine educational, housing, and basic needs based on your application and discuss educational, housing, and a basic needs plan with you.

         c. If you are approved, the plan will be executed through collaboration with other support services (including, but not limited to LASC Career Center, LASC Promise Program, CalFRESH, LASC Dream Resource Center, LASC EOPS/CARE, CalWORKS, Mental Health, etc.)"

Step 4:

GATEWAYS Housing Staff will “Refer” you to the appropriate Community Housing Partner (i.e., CRCD, LAHSA, Jovenes, etc.). Our Community Housing Partner will work with you until your housing needs are resolved.

Step 5: You will also meet with the GATEWAYS Counselor throughout the semester(s) for educational support. The GATEWAYS Liaison, Joni Collins will offer life skills workshops throughout the year for first time GATEWAYS Housing students who are entering the world of independence for the first time.
